Letter from Gujarat
How helplessly pathetic it has been to watch both political parties in Gujarat manipulating each and every atrocity on Dalits, getting political mileage out of it and using it for their narrow electoral gains during last forty years!
In the eighties when Congress was in power, BJP would exploit Dalit anger sending its Dalit stooges in Dalit protests and Dharanas, Modi would come with a glass of lemon to end daylong fast of his party's obedient Dalit leaders. The famous Sambarada struggle of 1989 was the glaring example of BJP's blatant manipulation of Dalit dissent, where the then Union finance minister B K Gadhvi was the villain as his caste men tormented Dalits of Sambarda village. The Samabarda struggle was one of the reasons for Congress' downfall in Gujarat.
Now, it is a turn of Congress, the opposition party to ride on Dalit anger and beat BJP with the same tactics and method. And Dalits are simply becoming pawns in the power struggle between two Brahmanical parties.
