In every human, the self-respect is inbuilt, and you can forgive and forget when your self-respect is broken. This love to self-respect starts from child hood. A small child when felt ignored it starts crying because of crack in his self-respect. Each and everyone should have self-respect, but the problem starts when it goes beyond certain limit and converts into EGO.

There is a thin line between SELF RESPECT & EGO. So when we go cross certain limit we don't know our relation, beautiful relationship may break, you feel your ego is broken when some one is lower in all respect go ahead. But what do and how can we control. One example.

In Vadodara, me and my daughter went to Big Bazaar for small shopping. At the main entrance, I was stopped by a security guard for routine check up. I went directly from office and therefore in a little egoistic manner I brought out my Identity Card and showed him, I am a Government Officer. He looked at me and allowed me to get in. While going inside my daughter looked unhappy and told me, "Papa he was performing his duties only, nothing else, you should co-operate him." I got confused, she was right. The effect of Govt Officer was slowly reduced and came down to the earth. I felt it was my mistake. I went directly to Security Guard and told sorry. The heavy weight of my head was coming down. The guard was smiling, I made him realise his existence.

Even though the security guard is not my relative I felt that my self-respect should not become my ego which causes to break my relations with dear and near.

There is a little comparison with EGO and OVER CONFIDENT. Overconfident possess some qualities and abilities and still deserve success, but Egoistic not necessary be intelligent, he may be or not. The overconfident person though fails, may lose his fame, but never lose his relations. For the Egoistic person, some are praying to make him fail and subsequently he loses everything.

When a film 1942 A LOVE STORY came, there was a premier show in Maratha Mandir Talkies in Mumbai. Vidhu Vinod Chopra (3 idiot fame) was the producer. He sat along with great personalities like Amitabh, Jaya and Anil Kapoor and so on. When Movie started Jaya also stated eating something which produced little sound. Vinod Chopra stopped her and told everybody it was my film and nobody was allowed to take anything. Everyone shocked looking to egoistic nature of Vinod Chopra and each present in the Hall prayed for the failure of the film. The film was failed "in toto" (Totally or completely) and Vinod spoiled his relations with many.

In the end, you should have self-respect but be careful it should not convert into EGO
